An ad hoc wireless network is the connection between two hosts without the intermediate access point; two computers directly connected to each other. The ad hoc attack takes effect when an attacker connects directly to another wireless-enabled computer. The main threat with this type of connection is that it is relatively easy to set up and users may be unaware of the difference between an infrastructure mode connection and an ad hoc mode connection so some users may see no harm in establishing what in reality is an insecure connection. Security on an ad hoc network Acceptable security protocols may not be supported and is very inconsistent. It is not possible to disable the SSID broadcast feature.
