The Unicornscan tool is a very capable scanner and is often used to do preliminary scans. Even though it nmap timers are very tunable and nmap optimizes during scans, the Unicornscan tool seems faster. If it is as reliable as nmap is hard to say but as it is common to do the same scans with more than one tool to get more accurate scans, this scanner is a qualified tool to verify nmap scans or the other way around.
