Needless to say, fences are one of the physical boundaries that provide the most visible and imposing deterrent. Even though the construction, placement and type of fence vary this kind of control may only deter the casual intruder or attacker and not a very determined one. Remember this is a mental game played out between the defending party and the attacker. One function of a well build fence may also be to force an intruder to move to a specific choke point to enter the premises as the intruder often target the weakest link, that being the choke point. This chokepoint should hold high resolution cameras with night vision or similar control. Fences should be at least 8 feet tall to be considered effective at deterring a determined attacker but this should be dictated by the security goals of the organization.
